DDS Demolition have successfully completed the Demolition of the Multi-Storey Car Park in Popes Road, Brixton.
We employed a combination of Top Down and Peacemeal techniques to raze the structure to the ground, as the tight site confines prevented the use of high reach excavators.
The car park, deemed unsafe in a structural report, was situated in the heart of one of London’s cultural hotspots, in close proximity to Brixton Market. The project required intensive resident liaison due to some concern over the works, and careful traffic management around the removal of the link bridges. In addition, detailed logistics planning had to be incorporated into the demolition to ensure site traffic was having minimal impact on the residents, market traders, and local businesses.
Despite complication arising from the discovery of unknown asbestos beneath the slab, DDS still managed to deliver the project on time and to budget. We received some very positive comments from the residents in our post demolition satisfaction questionnaire, and have gained invaluable experience we hope to put to good use of future schemes.
