Demolishing structures using explosives, despite being a ’crowd pleaser’, happens in less than one percent of demolition carried out in the UK. It’s generally carried out when a traditional mechanical demolition cannot be used due to the size or robustness of the structure to be demolished.
Although the demolition part of the process only lasts a few seconds, the preliminary works that are carried out to make the demolition process successful could take months. Structural investigations will have to be made for a charge pattern to be designed, road closure permits may need to be obtained, public interest will need to be managed.
Due to our experience and knowledge of explosives, we have been known to “think outside the box” and suggest effective alternatives when considering the management of this method.
