Sovereign Court – top down demolition of 8 storey office block
- Location:
- Hammersmith, London
- Date completed:
- January 2014
- Description:
- The top down demolition of a 8-storey office block and high reach demolition of multi-storey car park
In our experience, Multi-storey car parks were never designed with a simple and easy deconstruction in mind. Whether it be of lift slab construction or cast in-situ concrete, devising an effective deconstruction method can be complicated, as often car parks fully utilise the extent of the site footprint and a traditional mechanical methodology whereby 360 excavators are positioned adjacent the structure, cannot be used. In these circumstances, a top down methodology will typically be employed.
Structural stability often is a major factor; lift slabs car parks are prone to structural failings and temporary works may need to be engineered and installed to uphold the structures while the demolition is carried out.
